With third place in the Carrera Cup championship, his best overall position yet, secured before the final round Martin Öhlin threw caution to the wind and went all-in at the final round. At the penultimate round Martin finished first and second in the two rounds and gave the title contenders a real match the whole weekend. For the final round at Mantorp he promised more of the same.
– It’s about time they get a real match and I have nothing to lose, Martin said. I’m aiming for victories. I have a very good feeling for this weekend.

That was just what he did. For the first race on Friday evening Martin qualified on the front row. He made a great start and stole the lead well before the first corner. Martin held the lead in the first part of the race but then had to give up first place when Fredrik Larsson dived down the inside after the long back straight. Martin went on to finish a close second in one of this best races this season.
– The start was so good I was almost afraid it would be a jump start, Martin said after the race. I got away perfect and there was no doubt I would be in the lead before the first corner. Unfortunately I was a bit too nice to Fredrik later. But he was fighting for the title and was a little bit quicker at that stage and I knew he would try no matter what. I’m happy with second place, it’s a very good start to this weekend.

For the second race on Saturday Martin had third position on the grid, thanks to having the third fastest lap in the race. This didn’t stop Martins plans for another attack on the victory as he once again made a great start. This one was even better as he surged from third place up into the lead, once again well before entering the first corner. Martin Öhlin then had a fierce fight with Fredrik Larsson over the lead as Martin withstood all the pressure Larsson piled on him. They fought closely and with just a few laps from the end they went side by side out of the corner after the back straight up towards a quick left hander. After they touched briefly Martin had to give up the lead but now he put pressure on Larsson. Unfortunately on the next lap Martin went off and crashed heavily in the barriers, probably due to water from a slightly damaged radiator getting on the front tyres. He left the crash unhurt but the car was severly damaged in a final race where Martin gave everything and fought bravely for the victory.
– I did just as I wanted to do in this race, keep the foot down and go all-in. It almost went our way, I really wanted to give Larsson a real match today and we had a great fight. As I said before the weekend we had nothing to lose and I aimed to do have a fighting finish to this season which is my best season in Carrera Cup. I think we did just that, Martin summarized his final race weekend of the year.

This fighting spirit also pleased team manager Dick Jönsson Wigroth who has seen Martin deliver a great first season for the touring car team WestCoast Racing in the first Porsche season.
– Martin finished in style and really gave Larsson a fight this weekend. It’s good to hear he escaped unhurt from the crash, it’s never fun to retire from a race but Martin did so after having driven a fantastic race. The start was superb and after that Martin went for the victory and nothing else. This is a worthy end to a very good season for him, Dick said.

With that Martin finished his third season i Carrera Cup Scandinavia in third place overall and with a very good record from the season that included a fighting finish, many podium places and one victory.
